I am SO close to getting a Kindle. I just need $35 more on Amazon. I have used all the gift cards I have got from my apps. They sure do add up! I was going to go with the cheapest one but the next one up has a light. I think I need a light since I have been reading under the blankets lately. I do not know too much about Kindles but I have not heard any issues with them. I could use advice before I buy one!
Since I have not won anything nor received anything from Goodreads lately, I have been downloading books to my phone. I am always looking for new books to read. I decide to read Prodigal Son by Kathleen Lopez in exchange for an honest review. It sounds interesting so l look forward to beginning it. I got this book from the Reading Deals website.
I also am going to start reading The Forgotten Girls by Alexa Steele. I downloaded it for free on Amazon. It also sounded interesting. However the reviews on Goodread suggest it is average.
Today is Christmas. I have been running around for weeks making sure everyone has the perfect gift or at least something they will like. I only expected one person to take the time to do the same for me. I was let down big time. I know this sounds selfish. When my hubby gave me my gift bag I was excited because I thought he actually took time to think about me. So when I opened this bag I was shocked and disappointed. In the bag was a pair of slippers, a gift card and a small box of chocolates. I know I should be happy I got anything at all right? Well I’m not. Let me explain here because I don’t think I could explain it to him.
1. The slippers: He JUST bought me a pair of slippers two weeks ago. I really didn’t need more, to make matters worse they were the SAME damn slippers he bought me just a different color.
2. The gift card: The night before he asked me what I wanted and I said an Amazon gift card. He said No! So what is this gift card he gives me? An ice cream gift card to a place that is nowhere near us. Yes I do LOVE ice cream, but there is no Coldstone near me so most likely will not use it.
3. The chocolate: This I liked 🙂
So Yes I may be selfish and feeling sorry for myself but it is obvious he didn’t put any thought into my gift. He spent more time picking out gifts for his co-workers who he doesn’t even like. He said he had no time. My mind remembers him having time for the gym and to shop for all of his family members. So what gift did I expect from him? I expected something that was not so obviously last-minute and with some thought put in it. I personally would have loved an I.O.U dinner date with no baby. The way I feel now I actually would have preferred no gift at all. Am I wrong to feel this way? I don’t know but I feel hurt. I will get over it, just not today. Just being able to rant is such a big help for me. So thank you for letting me rant.
I am still waiting for the books I have won from Goodreads to get here. For now I am reading Street Creds by Zach Fortier. This is the second book of his that I am reading. I have always been interested in what a police officer actually sees and feels while on the job. The first book I read of his was Landed on Black. A book that is filled with different stories and experiences of his. I gave that book 5 stars. Both of his books are easy reads and keep your attention. I should be finished with this one very soon.
I have seen people on here charge author to read their books in exchange for a review. I do not do that but if you want to pay then I will not argue with you! You could always send me a copy of your book that way I will feel obligated to read it.
I am $5 closer to my Kindle, having won a $5 giftcards on Swagbucks. Yay me! If anyone wants an invite to Swagbucks just let me know. Anyone know which Kindle device is the best and which ones have flaws? I want to get one that will do the job.
I received an advanced copy of this book in return for an honest review.
I did not care too much for Next of Sin by Lisa Gordon. Before this book is to be published it definitely needs to be edited. There are a lot of spelling errors.
The first chapter of this book made the book look promising. It seemed to go downhill from there. There is no mystery in the book about who committed the crimes. It was more of a “I know what you did I just have to prove it” plot. The book did offer some small surprises, but the whole story was pretty predictable. I feel that this could have been a good story if the plot had more mystery or surprise.
*I can not agree with the whole thing about astrological signs. I am a Gemini and I know Geminis, both male and female, and we do like to fish!
I gave the book 2 stars on Goodreads and 3 on Amazon which both add up to : It’s ok
“The best way to go, is just to do it” – Uncle Lanny
Harbored Secrets by Marie F. Martin is a book filled with drama from the very first chapter. Do not make the same mistake I did and start reading it before you go to bed! It is a hard book to put down.
The book is about Blinny, a troubled woman, who longs to build her own house. While building her house she is flooded with painful memories from a past she can not escape. Through out the whole book many secrets are revealed. Some secrets are shocking some are very much expected. Martin is good at not giving away the answers to all the story all at once. It is because of this that makes it hard to put the book down.
I wanted to hug Blinny throughout the whole book and tell her how strong she was to be able to deal with everything. I also understood her longing for a place to call her own. We all want to be in a place that makes us happy. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a good drama. I also would love to read some of Martin’s other works to see if they all carry this type of powerful story.
I gave this book 5 stars on Goodreads and on Amazon. It was a book I will not soon forget.
These gray days make me so sleepy. They seem to drain half of my energy and the baby takes the other half. The baby has also decided that naps are no longer required. I am going to miss my hour of peace and quiet. I also can not wait for the holidays to be over. People get so greedy this time of year. It is as if the “holiday spirit” is an evil force that processes people’s souls. Speaking of greed…I really want to get a Kindle. I have been reading books on my phone and the battery is starting to not hold a charge as long anymore. Enough of my wants and desires…on to book news!
I have finished all of the books I have received from Goodreads. I am still waiting on three more, two i do not think I will ever get. I have been downloading books from Amazon to read for now. My cousin, Zelmer Wilson, is a new author and has been looking for reviews on his books. A list of his books can be found here.
The new book I am reading is called Harbored Secrets by Marie F. Martin. I downloaded it off of Amazon for free. Once I am done my review will be posted on here, Amazon and Goodreads. I’m always looking for new books to read, so if anyone has a good one left me know!
Just finished reading How Not To Run A B&B by Bobby Hutchinson and here is my review.
I really liked How Not To Run A B&B by Bobby Hutchinson. The book is about Hutchinson’s real-life adventures of running a bed and breakfast. The book tells of her many different guests and her experiences with them. At the end of each chapter there is a recipe or some words of wisdom. This is an easy read, I was able to finish it in two days. This is basically a book of short stories.
My biggest dislike about this book is the way the recipes or words of wisdom were thrown randomly at the end of the chapters. I would of preferred if there were only recipes or only words of wisdom. Even if the recipes and wisdom were alternating at the end of each chapter it would fit together better.
I look forward to trying some of her recipes. They sound yummy! I also would love to visit her bed and breakfast one day. Bobby Hutchinson has also written many romance novels. A list can be found on Goodreads. https://www.goodreads.com/author/list/28049.Bobby_Hutchinson
I gave the book four stars on both Amazon and on Goodreads.
